This week we have a special treat at trustfund, and no it's not more mcnuggets. ( Although we might have some large pizzas) Austin and Benji from Jensen Sportag will be guest djing with us and it should be a good time. If you have ever heard them dj you'll know they drop various musical gems that reflect their wide range in taste and inspiration. See this guest radio spot they did back in August for example.

Topic 2. I'm a big fan of Modular's modcasts and this week I sucked out a little joint from Modcast 18.

A little DubStep...To Kick off the Weekend Right

So wrapping up the computer time...Figure i leave with a little bit of Dubstep too while im at it.
What we got here is is George Lenton hailing from the UK. This is a unsigned dude, I just really like his style and hey whats it gonna hurt to throw a little shine on a un familiar face?
so what we got for you today is 2 remixes.....

The Proof Is In The Pudding....

So i was having a conversation last night at Red Door with Mr. Matt Erickson himself and we were discussing the fact that dance/disco/techno (whatever you wanna call it) music was really beginning to make its defined niche in the industry and how so many genre's were specifically copying sounds, patterns, beats etc. to kinda capitalize on this very thing and I told him how i had found the new Naledge single and it struck a very distinct familiarity to another remix that has been done by one of my favorite duos. Now i am a big fan of The Kidz in the Hall and think very highly of Naledge as a rapper, but this is def out of his character and a stretch even for him. Over all the song isnt too bad, but it def feels like a imitation of some of the early rap/dj combos we have had in this genre. So i pose the question to you....
What do you think about the sudden "commercialization" of the genre? Do you see it helping or hurting in the long run?

I am also gonna drop the song for you to make your own opinion of it let me know what you think

BLATTA & INESHA

So if anybody out there knows me, then you know that i am a HUGE Bloody Beetroots fan. So i was checking on there tour, trying to find video etc. and came across these guys who are currently doing a couple of shows with TBBs.
I also happen to be a huge dubstep fan which they def have taken alot of inspiration and to me its kind of a mix between a BloodyBeetroot or Justice and some of the before mentioned dubstep over all its got a great sound so i figured i would share it check it out

NES Project: Phase One

I'm a pretty big fan of the 8-bit era of gaming and thought it was finally time to refurb the NES that was sitting in my closet for years upon years. I really wish i would had taken pics of the process, but i plan to replace the 72 pin connector soon so I'll make sure to post a step by step of that.

If you want to refurb the old box, all you need is a Phillips screwdriver, a safety pin (i used a very tiny Flathead screwdriver, but it's not necessary) and some patience. You can find directions here on how to disassemble and adjust the pins and although most recommend an alcohol soak, I passed on that step because I'm eventually replacing the connector all together. A warm soak and scrub with dish soap will remove any grim or discoloring of the top of the unit, but I would pass on cleaning the bottom of the case unless it's really dirty. The same goes for the controllers. They're easy to take apart and aside from the circuit board and cable, you can wash all the parts in warm soapy water. Be sure to clean your carts as well. A damp q-tip works fairly well, but a cleaning solution is also available.

When i first pulled it out of the closet, it didn't work. Now after an evening of cleaning and adjusting, it works fine with every game minus a few instances of a flashing screen. A new connector should solve that problem for good.

Felix Cartal Signs to Dim Mak

I am a big fan of Felix, He has been one of the many guys that i have met that has always been very cool and just down to earth. He always makes time to answer questions and is always up for a interview which as a writer is super dope to me.
So when i got the news that on the 17th he officially inked his deal with Dim Mak I was nothing but excited for him. He has been working hard and deserves it. More importantly I am anxiously waiting to see what happens now that this partnership has become official

You can check out Felix's thoughts on the whole situation here at his personal site where he also makes available some of the things he does while making the music we all love him for, and also gives a look into his daily grind and what not.

Make sure you check out the interview i did with felix a couple post back and his latest remix

The Recap- Ultimo presents Tainted Love

Where were you on Feb.13th? If the answer isnt the Tainted Love event presented by Ultimo featuring Hands Off Sam, BuckMaster(south carolina) vs Blngxbdgt (north carolina), Justin Kase (tn), and Treasure Fingers (ny) then you were in the wrong place.

I arrived a little later then originally wanted but got there in time to see the majority of the BuckMaster vs Blngxbdgt's set. The venue was packed from stage to door, door to exit with people looking to spend Friday the 13th and there pre-valentines day the proper way. This was my first time seeing these guys but i was greatly surprised and impressed. Seeing the styles of both of these dj's come together was amazing.
What came from this combination was around a hour of non stop bangers.
Which in any arena would of left both there respected Carolina homes proud.

Next up we had Nashville's very own Justin Kase. Now Justin is known to destroy a club and this was no exception. From the moment he came on the club exploded.
From this point forward the club seemed to not be big enough to control the energy and amount of music being pumped through the venue. With what seemed like a whole new wave of people coming into the club the stage became packed with people screaming, jumping, dancing, and singing. There wasn't a inch of club you could go into without feeling like the whole world was dancing to the same beat.
Justin kept things going for around a hour and a half or so setting the mode for the headliner for the night Treasure Fingers.

Treasure Fingers came out swinging giving everybody his signature 80's influenced funk infused disco madness that he has developed such a strong following for. This set the tempo for the rest of the night, which played out way into the valentines day morning it had preceded. All and all this was an amazing show and if you missed it then you missed out big time.

Fever Ray - If I Had A Heart

Karin Dreijer Andersson (aka Fever Ray) is set to release her debut solo album and Knife fans everywhere are in anticipation with high expectations. They set the bar for the future of pop electronica with 2006's Swedish Grammy winning Silent Shout. That combined with the two previous releases that deserve nods of thier own, this album is sure to live up to any hype that may be surrounding it.

"If I Had A Heart" is our first look into the album and it sets a dark tone akin to the attitude and emotion that we got from Silent Shout. Haunting pitched vocals, a simple but brillant melody, and a mood that will break your heart and make you fall in love at the same time.

The Album hits our shores on March 24th on Mute Records and will be available at all the major digital retail outlets including Itunes & Beatport.

Fever Ray - If I Had A Heart (YSI) *

*MP3 is 128k, but you can pick up a high bitrate version at both beatport and itunes right now.

Style Observer: Keep on Movin' at the 5 Spot

Monday nights at East Nashville's the 5 Spot (the "Keep on Movin'" party put on by Electric Western Presents) have pretty much become de rigeur for any fan of any of the following: 50s/60s music (including garage rock, motown, etc), cheap beer, and tons of late 20-somethings (and 2 late 50-somethings) dancing with reckless abandon. Personal style is in abundance, ranging from looks in line with the vintage jams coming out of the speakers to looks that the wearer may not consider a "look." And lots of ink. A fantastic time that furthers East Nashville's reputation as the city's most happening hood.
